Ok so. I was speaking with some dude on HT. And he said to me "日本人です" (I'm Japanese). I thought, "How strange", but didn't say anything. And now he's like "hey I'm just some beginner, you're speaking too fast". Ok well man, why did you come and told me you were Japanese if that was false ? And if you aren't and are just too bad at Japanese to say you AREN'T Japanese, why did you ever came to talk to me ?? I don't get it.

Wait ? Speaking too fast ? Were you having a call with him ?
Anyway that's a shitty thing to do but I can get where he comes from. Perhaps he expected you to be at a lower level so that he could feel better about himself, or maybe he thought that people would've been more interested in chatting with a native-speaker ?

/!\ I accidentally traced back someone's legal name and school (uni) just by following a post in which they were tagged (with no ill intentions it was more of an affectionate post tbh) and now I'm terrified because of how easy it is to find personnal stuff on people online. They're relatively well-known they have hundreds of thousands of followers on their biggest social media account.

I also noticed that it is often not because of what you shared but because of people around you, your relatives and people who know you : you can't really control what they post about you besides asking them not to.

it's crazy how easy it is ... i'm quite good at being a social-media detective and it's scary how much information we can find on ppl online (just to clarify : i never had weird motives, it's always just about finding a person's instagram account for a friend, or checking what they study but still )
